Christmas quickly approaching
With Christmas quickly approaching, we can find ourselves invited to parties or drinks with work colleagues to celebrate the festive season. We should all let our hair down and enjoy this time, but this doesn’t have to mean we have to neglect our well-being and good habits. There are still ways to remain healthy and enjoy yourselves during this time.
When drinking with friends, why not have a glass of water between each alcoholic or soft drink? I often find that just placing the water in a wine glass makes a big difference when I’m in a social setting, especially the next morning.
Hosting A Party?
If you are hosting a party, there are a lot of healthy canapes you can serve amongst the sausage rolls and mince pies, so people can still have a choice. Why not set out a vegetable platter and houmous dip, with crunchy carrots, radishes and cucumber sticks? Swap fried crisps for baked tortilla chips with a cottage cheese dip. And for something sweet, dried fruit dipped in dark chocolate or make mini pots with Greek yogurt sprinkled with dark chocolate shavings and fresh mint on top. Delicious!
Nobody is really thinking about exercising at this time of year, especially with the long dark nights but that shouldn’t stop us heading out for a weekend walk with the family (and dog!) and breathing in some fresh air to rejuvenate ourselves. Afterwards treat yourself to a cosy Sunday roast with a plate full of protein, lots of root vegetables and dark leafy greens to pack in those much-needed nutrients.
And make the main event, Christmas dinner, a plateful of goodness with plenty of vegetables. Packed on those parsnips, carrots, swede, brussel sprouts and red cabbage. You can still include something naughty for dessert but why not swap the custard or ice cream accompaniment for a dollop of Greek yogurt instead.
Let’s enjoy Christmas and celebrate our health, too.
